How Dual Core Processors Work

A dual core processor is a very powerful piece of computer hardware, but most people don't understand it very well. First of all people mix up a dual processor system with a dual core processor system. A dual processor system is a computer with two separate processors usually on two separate motherboards but within the same chassis system. It's essentially putting two computers together and having them link to each other to speed things up a little bit.

A two processor core is different in that there are two processors but they are on the same die and share the front side bus. This means a dual core system is one computer, but has two processors to share the workload of one machine. A dual core is much faster than a dual processor system because there are not separate operations the processors are in charge of. Instead the two processors share the same processor commands and tasks.

The software that works with the new system and quad core machines is also very important. If the software is not made to utilize the two processor core technology, the computer may still feel very slow. Remember that its the software that is slow, not the machine.

New operating systems and software are being made to utilize the power harnessed within these new systems. The systems are compatible with 32 bit and 64 bit systems. 64 big systems are the main standard these days as they can process a lot of information in a very short period of time.
