What is a Socket 478?

Socket 478 refers to the type and specifications for a socket (CPU holder) which will accept and correctly connect certain CPUs (Central Processing Unit) to a motherboard. The Socket 478 uses a ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) connection method. The CPU drops into the socket (only one way of course) and then a lever on the side of the socket locks it into place. You can see this in the picture below. The lever is on the right hand side of the socket.
