Computer Keyboards

A computer keyboard and the computer mouse are definitely the most used input devices. The typing keys include the letters of the alphabet, generally laid out in the same pattern used for typewriters. According to legend, this layout, known as QWERTY for its first six letters, helped keep mechanical typewriters' metal arms from colliding and jamming as people typed. QWERTY is the most common keyboard setup but not the only one.

Keyboards can also use a variety of other typing key arrangements. The most widely known is Dvorak, named for its creator, August Dvorak. The Dvorak layout places all of the vowels on the left side of the keyboard and the most common consonants on the right. The most commonly used letters are all found along the home row. The home row is the main row where you place your fingers when you begin typing.
People who prefer the Dvorak layout say it increases their typing speed and reduces fatigue.

Different Types of Computer Keyboards

The standard computer keyboard is the one we all know and love, the QWERT flat keyboard with a cord into the keyboard port on the computer. But there are new types available today. There are ergonomic keyboards. One design popular today looks as though it is bent in the middle upward. This is supposed to make typing easier and less fatiguing. It does take some getting used to. There are keyboard physically split in two parts. Again, to make typing easier thus less fatiguing.

Then, there are the Wireless Keyboards . These are very useful as they allow the user to move about without a cord. This adds a great deal of portability and lets the user move away from the computer. These wireless keyboards most often use a wireless mouse.
